Wimborne St Giles CE VA First School and Nursery is a small rural Church of England school with pupils from 2 - 9 years old set in a small village which has a strong sense of community and history. We currently have three classes, two of which are mixed age. We also have a Nursery on-site which is also managed by the school and now offers provision for two year olds.
We have breakfast and after school clubs including Sports, Film, Art, Radio, Football, Multiskills and a Rock Choir.
The school holds Healthy School Status and Rights Respecting Schools Level 1. In the past few years, we have gained Levels 1 and 2 with RHS Gardening Award, ICT Mark and the Gold Sing Up award.
The 1944 Education Act granted the school Voluntary Aided (VA) status which enables it to remain faithful to its original Church of England foundation, taking into account changing circumstances. The majority of Governors are representative of the church. Voluntary Aided status allows the Governors to appoint the staff (their educational qualifications being subject to the approval of Dorset County Council) and therefore ensures that all staff support the ethos of a church school. The school enjoys the close support of the Wimborne St Giles church community and a representative from the church leads whole school collective worship every week.
