Invaders

During the Summer term we will be tracking back on our timeline to the Romans, Saxons and Vikings. Our role play area is filled with Roman artefacts and a Roman soldier will put us through our paces.

Oak Tree class welcomed Mr John Smith, local archaeologist and expert in Roman Britain. Mr Smith helped the class look at the Celtic way of life revolving around farming, the arrival of the Romans, the way the army was organised and how buildings and roads were developed during Roman rule. Many replica pieces of armour and weapons were shown all carefully crafted from detailed study of archaeological finds.
After a classroom filled session the children completed their afternoon with a marching drill following commands in Latin. Our actions were accurate, but tiring, making the children appreciate how difficult it must have been to march for miles weighed down by shields, armour, weapons and luggage.
