Our overarching aim is to equip children with the skills they need to thrive in the 21st Century.
Computing (previously known as ICT) is therefore a crucial part of the curriculum and we strive to ensure children are allowed a wide variety of opportunities to develop and apply these skills using the latest technology.
Throughout their time with us, the children will use computers to communicate and handle information using text, tables, pictures, graphs and sounds. They will also have the opportunities to enter, store, organise and analyse ideas and information.
Computing also has a cross-curricular role and the skills learnt by the children are used to support and enrich learning in other curricular areas.
Wimborne St Giles CE VA First School has a networked server which allows classes of children to be taught computer skills, as well as supporting other curricular areas. All classrooms have Internet and network linked computers, together with interactive whiteboards and projectors. These technologies allow the children to become immersed in their learning environments and support classroom teaching and learning throughout the whole curriculum. We also have a class set of wireless tablet PCs which allow learning to be extended beyond the classroom.
At Wimborne St Giles CE VA First School we embrace new technologies and harness them to enrich children's learning experiences. All children become confident and adept at handling new technology. This term we have introduced a fully equipped Radio Station into school. This has become another powerful teaching and learning tool and the children have thoroughly enjoyed acquiring the skills necessary to use this technology effectively.
